choreography
my artist statement
My artistic goals are rooted in connection, consciousness, and a comprehensive curiosity about the human experience. I am especially interested in the ways philosophy and science coincide to help us better understand our own existence, and I utilize concepts from both fields of study in my choreographic research. I both acknowledge and utilize the ways in which movement aids our conceptualization and understanding of the universe, as humans. I explore concepts of gender and sexuality within my work, hoping to diverge from the ways in which society has constructed these concepts and delve into these ideas in a more fluid, complex way, through the non-heteronormative organization of movement and bodies. Accessibility to dance is an issue that is very important to me as an educator, therefore I strive to make my own instruction and choreography financially accessible to a wide variety of individuals and communities. I am also interested in the normalization/representation of a wider variety of body types within the professional dance industry and this is reflected in the research behind many of my early solo choreographic works. My devotion to seeking out new experiences has led to a a symbiotic relationship between my worldview and my artistic expression with one continually influencing the other and allowing me to continually grow both as a person and an artist.
